Sacramento, CA
Will students show up for an afterschool program that gives them the opportunity to tap into their musical nature while also staying out of trouble?
They most definitely have at Grant High School in Sacramento. The Grant Drum Line, founded in 2009 to help keep kids out of trouble, has gone from performing at local events to appearing on MTV, Late Night with Jimmy Kimmel and with Good Morning America Host Robin Roberts.
And now the band is taking their dedication and enthusiasm for music overseas. The Grant Drum Line will leave Wednesday for a performance in Matsuyama, Japan as part of the 35th Sacramento and Matsuyama Sister City Anniversary.
We’ll talk with drum line director James Van Buren about the success of his program and we’ll hear a song from an upcoming educational CD that the band is recording.
