Many Americans see Thanksgiving as a day for celebration, a time to gather with families, eat bountiful meals and watch something on TV.
However, for our indigenous population, the day can be one of mourning and sorrow.
Vic Yellowhawk White is the former President of the California Indian Education Association. He joins Calvin Hedrick of 5th Direction, a program that works with tribal communities in California, to give the historical perspective on the native experience of Thanksgiving.
