Michael O’Connell, a beloved comedian in the Sacramento scene, died yesterday from complications of muscular dystrophy at the UC Davis Medical Center.
O’Connell was 47 years old.
A regular at open mics and showcases throughout the region, O’Connell was known as “the wheelchair comedian” and often used his comedy to dispel myths about people with disabilities.
Insight spoke with O’Connell on three different occasions – often before a big showcase that he was headlining – about his comedy and how his disability has effected it.
We’ll listen back to some of his interviews on Insight and we’ll hear from two comedians who worked closely with him throughout his career.
