Lauren Camp from UC Davis researches roundworms and other parasites. She will present the roles that nematodes play in nature Wednesday at Science Night Live at the Lodi World Of Wonders Science Museum at 6 p.m.  

Nematodes eat everything from bacteria to animal tissue but are not exclusively parasitic. They can be found in any and all climates and can be as long as 30 feet and as small as one millimeter or below.

In California, a few species of nematodes are known to infect crop plants including almonds, lettuce, tomatoes and strawberries to name a few targeted crops.

But Camp's main research focuses on raccoon roundworm, a species of nematode that primarily infects raccoons, but will also infect humans and other animals on rare ocassions.
