Sacramento, CA
Krista Rey was born profoundly hard of hearing, but you might not realize that just by meeting her.
Rey, who was born and raised in Stockton, began attending the Children’s Choice for Hearing and Talking Center in Rancho Cordova when she was 3 years old.
Her education at CCHAT – and a lot of hard work by Krista and her parents – made it possible for Krista to enter a regular kindergarten for hearing children at age 5.
Krista went on to have a successful school career, including earning a teacher credential for K-8.
Rey is currently working on her master’s degree in deaf education at Washington University in St. Louis and she was recently back in Sacramento as a teacher at CCHAT.
We spoke with Krista Rey a few weeks ago about her experience as a deaf student and what it was like to return to CCHAT as a teacher.
