One woman began a small nonprofit more than a decade ago with the goal combining activism and the arts in Sacramento.

Executive director and founder Estella Sanchez's project, Sol Collective, is now a local institution. It provides activist seminars, cultural programs and its own record label with nearly a dozen musicians.  

Sol Collective is in the midst of a campaign to raise funds to purchase the building it now rents on 21st near Broadway. About $70,000 of the goal $100,000 has been raised so far.

Estella reflects on the evolution of Sol Collective as well as the state of activism during the Trump administration.
