State Senate President pro Tem Kevin de León addressed a crowd at the state Capitol Wednesday about his new “sanctuary state” legislation, SB 54.
The "California Values Act" would – with some exceptions – ban state and local law enforcement agencies from working with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with regard to immigration matters.
De León has faced steep opposition from sheriff’s departments across the state, who argue the bill would impede law enforcement. Meanwhile, the bill's supporters claim he’s “watering down” the bill with amendments. De León joins Insight to discuss.
