College students are among the most vulnerable populations to suicide with more than 1,100 taking their own lives each year.
The stigma surrounding depression and other mental illnesses often makes it difficult for students to reach out for help.
Jody Nelsen, former executive vice president for finance and administration at Texas A&M University — and wife to Sacramento State President Robert Nelsen — is no stranger to this phenomenon. Their son Seth took his own life at age 25 with very little warning.
Nelsen will speak at the Out of the Darkness Walk this Thursday, April 6 that raises awareness of suicide prevention. She previews the conversation on Insight.
