Tripledemic
If you’re feeling a bit under the weather or taking care of someone who is, the trip to the pharmacy is a bit like a medicinal ghost town. Shelves can be pretty barren which means the demand is high. But this year is more than COVID, Flu cases have been rising. According to the state’s weekly report, the numbers are higher when compared to the same time in previous years, coupled with an early start to RSV which can cause serious illness in infants. Insight invited Dr. Tomás Aragón with the California Department of Public Health onto the program to get a better understanding of a “trifecta” of respiratory bugs circulating around.
Localis
The “Michelin Guide” for California has been revealed, awarding its stars to restaurants in what is considered fine dining's highest honor. Many Michelin-starred restaurants are in San Francisco or Southern California. However, Sacramento is making strides and has added a second Michelin-star restaurant with acclaimed culinary distinction. The Kitchen restaurant was the lone Michelin-star restaurant in Sacramento, but Localis, led in the kitchen by the owner and head chef Chris Barnum-Dann, has joined the Michelin guide list. Barnum-Dann joined Insight to discuss his culinary journey and what drove the success of Localis to receive the highest honor in food. Benjy Egel, Food and Beverage Reporter for The Sacramento Bee, also joined to Sacramento’s food culture and thriving scene that has become home to incredible chefs and restaurants.
