Gov. Newsom’s Special Session

‘Dave Webb: the grateful chair’
Facing cancer is rarely experienced alone. Caregivers play a crucial role in supporting loved ones. An artist transformed following his wife’s terminal diagnosis to remission into a video installation. Insight Host Vicki Gonzalez sat down with Dave Webb, a Davis-based multimedia artist, and Natalie Nelson, the curator of The Pence Gallery, to discuss the exhibit Dave Webb: the grateful chair which is in response to his wife Melinda Welsh’s cancer. Melinda is the founding editor of the Sacramento News & Review and helped launch the alternative weekly publication in 1989. The exhibit is on display through Nov. 1, with an opening reception Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. It is described as part love note, part meditation on mortality, part unsolicited advice - and invites us to consider our own connections to love and loss. You can read Melinda’s 2019 piece The Big Sick here.
60th Anniversary Reno Air Show
The National Championship Air Races have been a longtime staple in Reno, thrilling fans since they first started in 1964. But 2023 was the last year that the races flew over the Sierra Nevada. This year, to commemorate their 60th anniversary, the Reno Air Show is taking place from Oct. 4-6 at the Reno-Stead Airport, featuring teams like the Blue Angels, the Canadian Snowbirds and more. Tony Logoteta, COO and President of the Reno Air Racing Association provides a preview of the show, and also talks about the history of the air race before it moves to Roswell in 2025.
